High efficiency operation of a XeCl laser using a grid prepulse

Abstract

The need to improve the efficiency of preionized discharge XeCl lasers has spurred the development of prepulse methods.1,2 After preionization, the prepulse provides the initial breakdown of the gas mixture, which results In a more efficient flow of energy from the laser driver (i.e., discharge sustainer) to the laser load. We have developed a new prepulse method named the grid prepulse (Fig.1.
