Abstract
A new preionization electrode has been developed for a transverse flow CO2 laser. Output power of more than 9 kW was obtained in the laser (1.35 × 1.2 × 2.5 m high) with 88-kW injection power into the discharge region. Two two-stage axial flow blowers at 8000 rpm were used in parallel to obtain a gas velocity of 80 m/s in the discharge chambers. A ∩-shaped folding cavity mounted on an optical bench extracted the laser energy.
