Abstract

We report the observation of narrow dips within the homogeneously broadened lines in molecular iodine and atomic sodium. The lines are observed in a counterpropagating polarization spectroscopy experiment. These features provide a signature of the effect of strong fields and the effect of an open system In pump-probe experiments.
