Abstract

Laser beam apodization has been the goal of solid state laser programs since the early 1970s. It was especially important in designing laser function amplifiers or other high power laser systems. Because the apodization permits beam propagation and amplification with a large fill factor and minimizes the self-focusing effects and edge diffraction effects, it determines to a large extent the ultimate performance of high power laser systems.
