Using the light matrix method to compensate refractive index varlations in laser Doppler anemometry

Abstract

The laser Doppler anemometer (LDA) has become a useful tool in fluid mechanics research, although changes in the index of refraction associated with transparent interfaces have limited its applicability. Most of the fluid systems studied are contained in various kinds of tubing. Analyses available for index of refraction effects associated with circular tubing are not sufficient. Our method has enabled us to measure the LDA velocity in plane-layered discontiniuous and multilayered concentric media.
