Abstract

The investigation of flame structure and flow dynamics in combustion engines is of prime importance for improving fuel efficiency and reducing emission levels in combustion engines. Much theoretical work has been done, and experimental data are now needed to test various models. To this end we are developing 2-D laser-induced fluorescence LIF methods in collaboration with Daimler-Benz for visualizing flame structure and determining length and time scales.
