Abstract

Passive optical limiting based on two-photon absorption (2PA) and nonlinear refraction in semiconductors has been shown to be very effective in terms of high dynamic range and low limiting energy at visible wavelengths.1 Devices based on these nonlinearities have linear transmission for low inputs and a nearly constant output above a limiting threshold input. We have now extended this work to other semiconductors with suitable bandgaps for longer wavelengths.
