Long-pulse operation of a Nd:glass laser

Abstract

Recent interest in materials studies utilizing millisecond-regime laser pulses has led to development of such a laser system at KMS Fusion, We describe the configuration and performance of an Nd doped master oscillator/power amplifier system that incorporates electronic feedback control, This system delivers up to 40 J in a stable well-controlled square-wave envelope of mode-locked pulses that is 3 ms long with pulse to pulse spacing of 8 ns.
