Abstract

Ultraviolet picosecond pulses amplified by electron-beam pumped excimer lasers are very promising pumping sources for short wavelength x-ray lasers. A high power KrF laser system, Ashura, Is being developed for various purposes such as for x-ray laser1 and laser fusion.2 We report a study on gain characteristics and nonlinear effects in a picosecond pulse amplifier system. So far, we have obtained an 1.9-J/6-ps pulse from the system, and we expect to get several tens of Joule.
