Effect of volumetric ASE on the performance of large KrF amplifiers

Abstract

The design of large KrF laser systems for break-even ICF Is tending toward the use of a small number of very large final amplifiers. These amplifiers would have lengths of ~6 m and aspect ratios near unity. In amplifiers of this size, volumetric ASE and wall parasitics will be significant competitors against efficient energy extraction, even for relatively low small signal gains (<2 m−1).
