New method to extract the mean velocities of motile bacteria from their photon correlation spectra

Abstract

In principle, many meaningful parameters can be extracted from photon correlation spectra of motile bacteria. For example, the fraction of motile vs nonmotile bacteria, fertility, and rotational frequency of translating bacteria have been estimated from experimental data and analytic models. Rather complex theoretical models have been suggested to account for wobbling motions and to include the effect of finite size, shape, arid structure.
