Techniques for measuring the optical phase beyond principal values in the atmosphere

Abstract

The output range of an electric phase detector is typically limited to principal values (0–180 or 0–360°). Unfortunately, the input phase data may range beyond these principal values; the output of the phase detector will fold over if its range is exceeded. Phase unfolding refers to the process of converting principal value-limited phase data to unfolded phase data. The unfolded phase angles can extend beyond and are continuous through the principal values.
