Semiconductor laser stabilization by external optical feedback

Abstract

External optical feedback has proved to be very efficient in both improving the spectral purity and stabilizing the lasing frequency of semiconductor lasers. However, the operating characteristics of the laser depend in a complex way on the details of the optical feedback system. For the design of such laser systems, a general theory of the spectral properties is needed.
