Abstract

Versatility is an earmark of the symmetric selfelectrooptic effect device (S-SEED). The device can be an optical set/reset latch or an optical logic- gate, either OR, NOR, AND, OR NAND,1,2 It performs these tasks as a cascadable dual-rail three-terminal device and requires the reasonably low optical switching energy of approximately 6 fJ/μm2 of device area. Herein we show that S-SEEDs can perform the above functions even better if operated in a sense amplification mode.
