Abstract

For a BaYCuO superconductor having a transition temperature Tc near 77 K, one of the promising applications is as an optical detector or radiation sensor. Some work has been reported using the superconductive material as a Josephson device for detecting far infrared (FIR) or millimeter wave radiation.1 We propose a new sensitive optical detector which uses material with Tc close to liquid nitrogen temperature. This is experimentally demonstrated for a Ba2Y1Cu3O7−X/Ag2O metal composite superconductive thick film2 at 77 K and CO2 and Ar+ laser wavelengths.
