Abstract

Several recent developments using the Mark III tree electron laser at Stanford University have demonstrated that very broadband laser operation in the IR is achievable using a free electron laser. By taking advantage of new developments in the field, it should be possible to build a tree electron laser capable of operating from 1 out to 40 μm in a single device. Both high peak power and high fluence are possible in such a device, and wavelength tuning is quite convenient.
