Abstract

Because of its implications for wavelength multiplexed systems, the intermodulation between closely spaced signals in a semiconductor laser amplifier has received much attention recently.1-3 Here we present experimental confirmation in a two-channel system of a general model4 which showed for the first time that the power transfer between signals is caused by the spontaneous lifetime introducing a phase lag of the carrier density variations behind the beat envelope.
