Abstract

Packaged laser amplifiers operating at 1.5 μm have been developed that have high fiber to fiber gains and which are based on established epoxy-free techniques making them potentially suitable for submarine optical fiber systems. The lasers have been successfully demonstrated in an experimental multiamplifier system.
