Abstract

Semiconductor laser amplifiers (SLAs) are attractive for simultaneously amplifying bidirectional and multiwavelength signals over a wide spectrum range. Thus SLAs are expected to serve as simple multiwavelength bidirectional repeaters. While twenty-channel amplification of simultaneous unidirectional transmission was recently reported,1 only two-channel amplification has been reported in bidirectional transmission.2
