Abstract
The amplitude distribution of a periodic array of light sources (such as a linear array of semiconductor lasers) reimages periodically in the direction of propagation.1 This occurs after light travels a distance which is an integer multiple of Zt = 2nd2/λ, where Zt is called the Talbot length, n is the index of refraction of the medium, d is the array period in the lateral direction, and λ is the wavelength of light in vacuum. Art external Talbot cavity consisting of a microlens array and a feedback mirror was recently used to provide diffractive coupling to an otherwise uncoupled linear array of. diode lasers.1
