FEMTOSECOND RESOLUTION PULSE FRONT DISTORTION MEASUREMENT BY TIME-OF-FLIGHT INTERFEROMETRY

Abstract

In all optical materials of practical interest the group velocity is lower than the phase velocity of light by about 3-20%. Therefore the pulse front is delayed with respect to the phase front. The delay is proportional to the dispersion of the material and to the pathlength of the ray in the medium.
