Abstract
Direct frequency doubling of laser diode output promises to be the most efficient method of generating coherent blue emission. Because of low fundamental power the second-harmonic generation (SHG) and conversion efficiencies were low with single stripe GaAlAs laser diode pumps. Recently1 however, 0.72 mW of 421-nm radiation and 0.27% conversion were achieved by single pass doubling of 270 mW diffraction limited emission from an injection-locked 20-element array in KNbO3 crystal,
