Abstract
Long-chain conjugated polymers like polydiacetylene1 can have high third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility χ(3) because of the large optical response of delocalized π-electrons.2 Here we report our measurements at room temperature of χ(3) (large and fast, as expected) of a new such polymer, which is rugged and stable at room temperature: polydisubstituted ethylaminovinyl-polyaniline (pDEAVPA). The pDEAVPA was prepared by Yu and Dalton.3 The monomer structure is shown in Fig. 1.
