Abstract
Surface-emitting distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) lasers have been the subject of several recent papers that report both dynamically stable single-mode operation and very narrow beam divergence.1,2 Such devices have already been used as elements in coherent3 and incoherent2 surface-emitting arrays and are attractive components for optoelectronic integration. In the last year, grating surface-emitting devices with differential quantum efficiencies as high as 20%1 have been reported.
