Optical bistability initiated by absorption of resonance radiation by molecular gas

Abstract

It is found that the optical bistability in an absorbing molecular gas may develop as a result of the nonlinearity of the dependence of the optical excitation rate of molecules on the nonequilibrium vibrational energy of the system.
