Abstract
Optical computing and signal processing systems are intended for applications where conventional electronic hardware is either inappropriate due to size, weight, or power constraints or inadequate due to massive computational requirements. On the other hand, neural paradigms of computation may be appropriate for systems requiring autonomous artificial intelligence and learning capabilities that are still elusive for conventional rule- based Al approaches.
