Abstract

Laser hardening experiments were carried out using a Messer Griesheim 5-kW CO2 laser with beam shaping optics resulting in a rectangular 5- X 14-mm beam of constant power density. The samples were moved with a CNC-controlled handling system allowing on-line variation of the feed rate during processing.
