Abstract

The mode-hopping phenomenon in semiconductor injection lasers has the ability to perform optoelectronic logic and memory operations because the output wavelengths of a laser diode oscillator can be switched reproducibly due to mode-hopping as the driving current is varied, provided the ambient temperature is precisely controlled.1
