Optical self-routing of 12.5-Gbit/s time-division multiplexed data

Abstract

The speed of future photonic switches is limited not only by the device switching speed but by the speed of the routing controller. A data-flow bottleneck occurs at the controller if electronic Processing is used. This bottleneck can be overcome if the processing is carried out in the optical domain.
