Abstract
Recent experiments at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory have concentrated on characterizing the properties of the large-aperture e-beam- pumped KrF amplifier SPRITE1 for amplifying picosecond pulses to multijoule levels.2 The system has generated energies up to 2.5 J in 5 ps, which corresponds to peak powers of 0.5 TW. The background amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) levels were <0.5 J in a pulse length of >10 ns.
