Abstract

We have developed a technique for writing highefficiency diffraction gratings onto 2-D programmable spatial light modulators (SLMs) to steer dynamically an optical beam for such purposes as beam scanning and optical interconnects. Such high-efficiency operation of diffraction gratings requires the encoding of phase information which cannot be achieved with amplitude recording SLMs.
