Abstract
To date the available InGaAsP distributed-feedback semiconductor lasers with a linewidth of 10–100 MHz cannot satisfy the requirements of highly coherent optical communication systems.1 Previously it was proposed to reduce the linewidth of GaAIAs Fabry-Perot lasers by optical feedback from high-finesse single-mode fiber resonators.2,3 Furthermore, it was theoretically shown that similar optical feedback effects can be expected in DFB lasers.“ We report the experimental results on FM noise and linewidth reduction in a 1.5-μm InGaAsP phase-shifted DFB laser coupled to an external single-mode fiber resonator.
