Abstract
There is interest in generating either nanosecond or picosecond pulses by a single laser oscillator unit. The nanosecond pulse is usually obtained1 using an active or passive Q-switch; the train of picosecond pulses is obtained using either an active or passive mode-locker, and several combinations of these may be considered. However, there is still a lack of a laser capable to switch from the nanosecond to picosecond regime.
