Abstract

A fiber-optic interferometer for the measurement of ac motion can be used to simplify absolute calibration techniques for commercial piezo-accelerometers. The fiber system described incorporates a very high-speed heterodyne fringe counting system which allows absolute measurement of the motion of a surface. Many similar systems currently used only allow the measurement surface velocity, providing only an output which is proportional to the true value via the transfer functions of the FM decoder and output amplifier.
