Abstract

Excimer lasers represent the shortest-wavelength lasers currently available for fieldable laser radar systems. Since the imaging resolution of a laser radar is directly proportional to its wavelength, considerable interest in excimer-based UV laser radar has been generated in applications where high-resolution imaging is required. The primary disadvantage of the short wavelength for the ladar is atmospheric backscatter.
