Acoustic detection of metal ablation resulting from excimer laser excitation

Abstract

We are using acoustic and photoacoustic detection methods for time resolving metals ablated from and onto targets resulting from excimer laser excitation, These techniques offer an alternative to mass spectroscopic methods in that it is possible to detect all particles in real time, independent of their charged state. Acoustic transducers used so far include commercially available resonant PZT detectors and disks of PZT.
