Abstract

We report recent research on the passive Q-switch properties of F2:LiF, a color center material of keen interest for solid-state laser designs because of its saturation behavior at high intensity levels. Previously, color centers were thought to be subject to thermal and optical degradation in such operation. Early work has shown that F2:LiF can achieve Q-switched Nd:YAG laser action.1,2 Now we have verified and demonstrated repeatable G-switching performance for over 106 shots at 20 Hz at room temperature.
