Abstract
Laser material processing methods have been mainly used only for materials that easily absorb laser power. However, such processing has not been applicable to highly transparent materials; for example, fused silica glass, 99.99% SiO2, cannot be processed with a YAG laser because of its transparency at the 1.06-μm wavelength.
