Abstract
Optical receivers of extended sources that are used for wavelength discrimination have recently come to fruition. The device described requires a large aperture (of the order of 12 in. in diameter) to collect the energy. A means of isolating the narrow spectral bands of interest is also needed, and a 1 × 1° field of view is required. The radiant energy is imaged onto three 4- × 4-mm cooled detectors. These combined specifications demand a 9-in. focal length optical system operating at f/0.7.
