Abstract

Since 1980, when an Initial coherent optical modulation/demodulation experiment using laser diodes was conducted,1 considerable effort has been devoted to coherent optical transmission research.2–5 This paper reviews recent advances in transmission systems and describes some new techniques researched at NTT.
