Abstract
Dilute magnetic semiconductors are generally II–VI compounds (like ZnTe or CdSe) containing large fractions (up to 50 %) of magnetic ions such as Mn that substitute for the group II element. The introduction of the magnetic ion only weakly affects most semiconductor properties, but it does cause a tremendous increase of Faraday rotation.
