Abstract
To minimize the cost of large lasers for ICF applications it will be necessary to utilize various types of optical coating to reduce optical losses and to accommodate the highest possible power densities on all components. It has recently been shown1 that low density colloidal silica antireflection (AR) coatings deposited from solution can reduce Fresnel losses in laser components to ≪1 % per surface with damage thresholds as high as 14 J/cm2. Such AR coatings can be applied to all optical materials including KDP and are being used on many high power optical components in the Nova Nd:glass laser at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).
