Rotary echo measurement of dipole transition matrix elements

Abstract

The rotary echo in the IR region using the Stark switching technique1 is applied to the measurement of an effective transition dipole matrix element of a 13CH3F gas vibration–rotational transition. The experiment is performed by irradiating 13CH3F gas with a cw CO2 laser in the TEM00 mode and switching the IR transitions of the molecule with dc Stark electric field pulses.
