Abstract
Tunable ring lasers are highly efficient sources of coherent radiation. In such lasers the output is almost always obtained from a partially transmitting mirror. Coarse tuning the wavelength is done by a birefringent tuner. When working away from the peak emission wavelength of the active medium (a dye, for example) one often needs to change output mirrors to optimize laser output.
