Abstract

Stimulated rotational Raman scattering (SRRS) of CO2 laser radiation in para-H2 provides highpower coherent radiation in the 13-18-μm wavelength region. Previous demonstrations required either injecting a Stokes seed1,2 or cooling the H2 gas to liquid nitrogen temperatures.3,4 These systems would be greatly simplified if room temperature operation without seed could be realized.
