Abstract
Since 1977, when Pinnow et al. suggested the ultralow-loss (<10−2-dB/km) optical fiber in 2-10-μm wavelength bands at CLEA, remarkable progress has been made in development of mid-IR optical fibers (Fig. 1). Recent topics in mid-IR optical fibers and the current status of optical device research in this wavelength region are reviewed.
