Abstract
The use of silver gallium selenide for nonlinear IR applications was proposed in 1972.1 Further characterization and initial demonstrations of harmonic generation and difference frequency generation soon followed.2,3 However, at the time, growth-related problems made it difficult to obtain high-quality crystals of adequate size. Other potential nonlinear IR materials had similar problems, and properties of available nonlinear materials have limited progress in nonlinear frequency conversion at wavelengths longer than a few microns.
