Short-pulse CO2 laser systems for plasma investigation at the IPPLM

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The paper presents the characteristics of the multigigwatt single-beam CO2 laser system and the main subsystems of the 0.5-TW four-beam CO2 laser system being built at IPPLM. The single-beam system, consisting of a short-pulse generator, UV-preionized and e-beam-controlled preamplifiers, and a dual-beam amplifier, generates pulses of τp = 3 nsec, E = 15-20 J. The four-beam system was designed to achieve energy output of approximately 0.5 kJ in a nanosecond pulse and intensity in the focus > 1014 W/cm2.
