Real-time incoherent optical correlator

Abstract

We have previously described and demonstrated real-time image correlators1–3 in which 1-D acoustooptic devices are used as input spatial light modulators and 2-D processing is accomplished through a combination of temporal and spatial integration. A new incoherent architecture is described and experimentally demonstrated. The system is shown in Fig. 1. An input image is sensed by a TV camera, and its video signal is used to temporally modulate the intensity of the laser diode. A transparency of the second Image is stored in the optical system.
