Abstract

Intense IR coherent sources with continuous tunability are of increasing demand for applications in laser isotope separation, coherent detection, and IR spectroscopy as well. At present, Pb-salt semiconductor diode lasers can provide continuously tunable radiation in the whole IR range. However, their power available in a single longitudinal mode is limited typically to a few hundred microwatts. Here we report on an effective wideband amplification of diode laser radiation using an optically pumped gas medium at high pressure.
